Hello dear Mom and Dad,
Your baby has now reached the 4-week mark – an exciting time full of new developments! From this point on, the first major developmental leap begins, also known as “Leap 1”. This leap brings with it some changes and new challenges, as your little one now discovers the world of the senses.
What happens during jump 1?
During this phase, your baby makes a big leap in its perception and begins to feel and experience its environment more intensely. This means it perceives many new stimuli, which can initially be overwhelming for the baby. This often leads to increased crying and restlessness.
Signs of Jump 1
Here are some typical signs that indicate your baby is going through this developmental leap:
• Increased irritability: Your baby may be more easily irritated and cry more often.
• Changes in sleep patterns : Your baby may have difficulty falling asleep or wake up more frequently.
• Increased sucking: Your baby may want to nurse more often to soothe themselves.
• Need for closeness: Your baby seeks more physical contact and wants to be carried often.
How to handle jump 1
This phase can be challenging, but with a few tips you can master it well:
• Provide a sense of security: Carry your baby often in a baby carrier . The close contact gives them security and comfort.
• Stay calm: Try to remain calm and patient. Your baby senses your tension and reacts to it.
• Breastfeed on demand: Give your baby the breast when it wants it. Breastfeeding is not only nourishment, but also comfort.
• Introduce rituals: Fixed rituals, such as singing a lullaby or a gentle baby massage, can have a calming effect.
• Minimize stimuli: Make sure your baby isn't exposed to too many new stimuli. A calm environment helps them process new impressions.
The positive side of Jump 1
Even though this time can be tiring, it brings many positive developments. Your baby is beginning to perceive more of its surroundings and react to them. It might smile for the first time or seek eye contact – moments that will make your heart flutter.
This phase of growth and development is an important step on the path to discovering the world. Be patient and enjoy the small steps your baby takes. You are on a wonderful journey together, experiencing this exciting adventure.
All my love and strength during this special time 🫶🏻
PS Remember, every phase passes and every challenge is rewarded by the joy of your baby's developmental milestones!
