"Nesting" - What it is and what it does to you

"Nesting" - Was das ist und was es mit dir macht

Do you suddenly have the urge or instinct to clean, organize, and prepare your home for the arrival of your baby? This often occurs in the second trimester of pregnancy, but some women experience it earlier or not at all. This is known as "nesting." In this blog post, we'll explain the term and what it's all about.

The urge to "nest" is believed to be a natural instinct that prepares women for the nurturing role of motherhood. In times of significant change and uncertainty, it often gives us women a sense of control.

Some common signs of “nesting” during pregnancy are:

  • A sudden urge to clean and organize your home, including scrubbing floors, cleaning windows, and tidying cupboards.
  • The desire to decorate and prepare the nursery for the baby, to paint the walls, buy furniture, and sort the baby's initial equipment.
  • Increased attention to personal hygiene, including washing clothes and bed linen, showering or bathing more frequently, and more frequent body care.
  • The urge to stockpile supplies and, of course, to buy diapers, wipes, and baby clothes.

While nesting is a normal and healthy behavior during pregnancy, it's important to do everything at your own pace and not overdo it. Be sure to listen to your body and rest when you need to. Please also avoid harsh cleaning chemicals and heavy lifting, which can be harmful to you and the baby.
