During the second trimester, our little angels experience rapid growth ! Many of the most important organs and systems are already fully developed by the end of the second trimester. Exciting, isn't it?
Here's a weekly guide to how your little one will develop in the coming weeks and what you can expect!
Week 13: At this stage, the baby's vocal cords develop and it can make sounds. The baby's digestive system also begins to function and the kidneys produce urine. Incredible!
Week 14: The baby's body begins to become more proportional and hair on its head starts to grow. The baby also begins to make facial expressions.
Week 15: Your baby's skeletal system begins to strengthen, and more muscle tissue is growing. The baby's taste buds are developing.
Week 16: The baby's skin thickens and it begins to build up more body fat. Its eyes move and it can see light.
Week 17: Your baby's brain is developing rapidly and it is beginning to practice breathing by inhaling and exhaling amniotic fluid. Fingernails and toenails are starting to grow.
Week 18: Your baby begins to develop eyebrows and eyelashes. The fetus's hearing also becomes more sensitive, and it can hear the mother's heartbeat and voice.
Week 19: Your little angel is beginning to develop more complex reflexes such as grasping and sucking. The baby's skin becomes less transparent, and more hair is growing on their head.
Week 20: The baby is now in the middle of the pregnancy. Your baby is developing more fat under the skin and is growing faster. You can feel the baby move from this stage onwards.
Week 21: Your baby's digestive system becomes more efficient and they begin to swallow amniotic fluid. The baby's taste buds become more sensitive.
Week 22: A regular sleep-wake cycle develops, and the fetus increasingly reacts to sounds and touch. It also produces more red blood cells.
Week 23: The baby's skin becomes more opaque and more sweat glands develop. The baby's lungs mature.
