Your little baby grows and changes at the speed of light, and we often don't even realize how incredibly fast the growth process is. We also don't realize how absolutely magical we are as women and what our bodies are truly capable of.
We have compiled some milestones in your baby's development to illustrate approximately how big your baby is in your womb at the moment.
Month 1 (Weeks 1-4)
Your baby is now the size of a poppy seed. What you can expect: The beginning of your incredible journey is about to begin. Many women don't feel anything at this stage, but it's possible that you'll experience early signs such as tender breasts, mood swings, cramps, and implantation bleeding, which are very similar to typical PMS symptoms. Your body is preparing for the next 8 months. In most cases, these symptoms are perfectly normal.
Month 2 (Weeks 5-8)
Your baby is now the size of a raspberry. What you can expect: Your baby will begin to develop a small nose, mouth, and ears. Several organs also develop this month. One thing most women experience during this phase is nausea, which often occurs between weeks 4 and 9. You might also develop an aversion to certain foods or experience food cravings. Some smells you may have loved could suddenly become some of the worst you've ever smelled.
Heartburn, indigestion, bloating, and constipation can also occur due to hormonal changes in your body. Be patient with yourself and always remember that raising a little person is exhausting. It's okay to feel tired and have your emotions all over the place.
Month 3 (Weeks 9-13)
Your baby grows from the size of a cherry in week 9 to the size of a lemon in week 13 (how amazing, right?!)
What to expect: Hello tiny fingers and toes! This month is all about growth and bone development, including those little boy or girl parts, so it's only a matter of time before you can see your baby's gender. The second trimester is upon us, and if you've been experiencing severe nausea or other pregnancy symptoms, these may start to subside by the end of this month. Fatigue and constipation are likely still present. Increased melanin production can also lead to skin changes. These include dark spots on the face, the vertical dark line on the belly, and darkened nipples. Your breasts are also preparing to produce milk, which will also cause some changes.
Get ready, future mom - the second trimester is on its way and many say it's the best of the three trimesters.
